Michael A. Chaney

Michael A. Chaney, age 84, passed away on August 10, 2024 at the Journey Home in Bartlesville, OK. He was born in Texarkana, Texas on January 13, 1940 to Donald and Mary Jo Chaney. He was preceded in death by his Father, Donald F. Chaney and Mother, Mary Jo Chaney, Sister Sandy Wurtz and Brother-in-law, David Wurtz, Sister, Debby Hicks, Niece, Amy Hicks and Brother-in-law, John O’Connor. Mike attended OSU. He was a member of Equitable Hall of Fame and a Life Member of the Million Dollar Round Table, Charter Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant and a Certified Family Business Succession Specialist. In 1959 Mike married and raised a family with Georgann Ross Chaney. This union produced two children, David M. Chaney and Kimberly D. Chaney. Mike was introduced to the Life Insurance Business in the 70s and immediately fell in love with the business. He started his career with Equitable Life Insurance Company and though he changed his “home” company several times over the years, he had such great memories of the friends he developed during that time that lasted a lifetime—good times, good friends and great memories. In 1982 Mike married Ruby Lane Cook and they spent 42 wonderful years together until his death. With this union, they created a family of 4 children and 4 spouses. The family has grown considerably with the addition of 4 Bonus Grandchildren and now 11 Great Grandchildren including Bonus Great Grandchildren. In 1991, Mike and a friend started a men’s group, PRG, Professional Resource Group. PRG survived all of these years and resulted in lifelong relationships that were personal as well as professional. The members and spouses became friends and shared many summer get-togethers and an annual Christmas dinner at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. Our son, David Chaney, joined the PRG upon the retirement of his Dad. The last ten years of his career, Mike worked preparing his son, David Chaney and his Granddaughter, Madison Chaney, to take the family business, Legacy & Succession, for the next two generations. One of his great joys was helping the clients create legacies that will last for generations to come. Mike is survived by his wife, Ruby, and 4 children, Kent Cook and his wife Maureen, David Chaney and his wife Gaye Lynn, daughter Kim Chiconas and her husband Jimmy Chiconas, and Vicki Bullen and her husband Chris Bullen. As well as Grandchildren Tucker Chaney and wife Macy, Madison and wife Kasey, Nick Chiconas and Alexandra Chiconas, KoDee Roberts and wife Whitney. Mike’s love of life was the lake home entertaining friends and family and watching the Grandchildren enjoy the lake and grow up. Also, the annual Family trips to Red River, New Mexico where the children became our children not yours and mine. He attributed these two events as well as others to “All Because Two People Fell in Love". A Celebration of Life will be held at Timber Oaks, 1639 US-60, Bartlesville, OK from 2-4:00 on August 24 and a Celebration of Life will be held on September 13, from 5:30 to 9:00 at the Petroleum Club at 100 N.
