Judith "Judy" Irene McGlasson

Judy Trenary McGlasson passed away on March 2, 2024. A memorial service will be held at Stumpff Funeral Home Bartlesville, OK. (date) with burial at Newkirk Cemetery. Judy was the only daughter of Ralph and Hazel Trenary and was born October 6, 1944, in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She was an honor student at Peckham Elementary School, Peckham, Oklahoma. She attended Newkirk Jr. and Sr. High School, Newkirk, Oklahoma, where she was an honor student as well. She married and raised three children, Jeff David, Jill Renea and Jay Loyd McGlasson. She attended college at Emporia State in Emporia, Kansas and Oklahoma University. She received an Associate Degree in Business from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma. She had several different careers but retired due to health problems while working for Theater Bartlesville, where she had been Executive Director for many years. She was instrumental in opening the new theater in downtown Bartlesville. She had been very active as a volunteer with the Theater for over 25 years. She received many "Oscars' from the Theater for her Directing and Acting and the Theater still displays her plaques proudly on the walls. She was awarded Woman of the Year by the JC' s and was also featured in the Bartlesville Magazine. She was awarded by Theater Bartlesville the Lifetime Achievement Award for her years of service to the Theater. Also, the Allied Arts and Humanities Council awarded her the "Builder of Stars" award. This award is only one of three awarded by the Council. On the state level, Judy won the "Best Volunteer in the State of Oklahoma." Also on the state level, the Theater newsletter and programs for the shows that were written by Judy were awarded many 1st and 2nd places. After her retirement, she was awarded an 'honorary chair' at the theater on the front row. This also included a guest chair. In the Theater business, she mentored many high school students and was always proud of her many students. She was most proud of initiating the Student Productions at Theater Bartlesville, where she was able to teach directing, acting, as well as all technical aspects of a theatrical production and produce one production each season. This brought in new adults to the Theater which were usually parents and relatives of the students working on the show. This garnered many new members and volunteers. Her students would also volunteer to help on the other shows for experience as well and at times, would audition for roles in the remaining shows and were very often cast. Many of her students attended college and received Theater degrees. Many of those students attribute their success to the early mentoring from Judy. During her tenure at Theater Bartlesville, she wrote her first play, "Second Chance" which was performed at the Theater. After her retirement, she wrote a One Act play, "Mamma's Dog" which was performed at the Hillcrest Country Club and "Yes! We still date! In her 25 years with the theater, she directed over 40 plays, acted in approx. 20 plays, worked backstage in various positions, and created and filled the position of Production Coordinator for all the big musicals held at the Community Center. She was always very proud of her work for the Theater and felt she left a very positive mark in her time involved. She began her love for the arts when she was a child. She took singing, dancing, and piano lessons for many years. She performed at church, civic clubs and organizations in and around Newkirk starting at age five. She was also a star athlete, playing softball and basketball. She always said she had the best of both worlds. She could be a tomboy by day working alongside her father at the farm and participate in sports but could turn to the Arts at night with her singing and dancing. She continued her athletics as an adult by continuing to play basketball on an adult city league, playing softball and added to those sports, competitive water skiing and racquetball, where she won many tournaments. Prior to moving, she also was very active in her home church, Peckham Christian Church, where she played piano, taught Sunday School classes and was in charge of the youth group. She was a collector of western and Indian artifacts. Also, she was an avid fan of John Wayne; saw all his movies, more than once; met him once in Oklahoma City and in the mix of western artifacts are many pictures of John Wayne. She made time to take most of her grandchildren on vacation every summer for many years, until her job demanded more of her time. After retiring from the theater and her health allowed her to do a little volunteering, which she loved, the Washington County Adult Center in Dewey asked her to be their Marketing Director. Since this was one of Judy's areas of expertise, she accepted most willingly. She was then asked to be on their Board of Directors, which she also accepted. She also became the 'cookie lady' to the many children in her neighborhood. She started giving the kids cookies after school, sometimes popsicles, depending on the weather. She also had cartwheel contests in the front yard, many times. Also, she had a few dance contests in her den. Once, one of the girls wanted to audition for a Children's Theater production and wanted Judy to help her prepare a song. Since Judy could play the piano quite proficiently, she helped her prepare a song as well as a stage presence. She auditioned and was cast in the production. She enjoyed being around kids and helping them whenever she could her entire life. She is survived by son, Jeff David Morrow, as well as six grandchildren, grandsons Tommy Hutchison, Jake McGlasson and granddaughters Angela Morrow, Tatum Hutchison, Chelsea Thomas, and Cierra McGlasson. She had 22 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her precious children, son Jay McGlason, daughter, Jil Renea Morrow McGlasson and her father and mother Ralph and Hazel Trenary and both her brothers Ron Trenary and Fred Trenary. A memorial service will be held at 6:00PM Friday, March 8, 2024 at Truth Church Of Bartlesville.
