Jerry Milton Bork

Jerry Bork was born in Frontenac, Kansas to Eddie and Alma Bork on October 11, 1938. He died peacefully at his home on November 25, 2024, with his wife and dogs present. He and his high school sweetheart, Marilou, were married on December 22, 1957. Their 67th anniversary this month will be their first to celebrate apart. Jerry graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in accounting in 1960, joined Phillips Petroleum Company two weeks later, and the couple moved to Bartlesville where they made their home for the next six decades. In 1964 he received his CPA. He retired after 37 years of employment. He enjoyed several hobbies with music being an important part of his life. His senior year in high school, he joined a five-piece band playing the accordion. Most Friday and Saturday evenings for the next five years were spent in dance halls and smoky bars in the SE Kansas area. His college expenses were paid by playing in the band and also working for a CPA in Pittsburg. Jerry was a lover of animals. If he was seated there was a dog or cat on his lap. He also liked and enjoyed people. He was humble, generous, kind, and never felt better nor less than anyone. He saw goodness in everyone and humor in most situations. Jerry was always up for a little adventure. He loved running and participated in Oklahoma runs and two marathons in Minnesota. Bicycling was another love and he enjoyed local rides, Freewheel across Oklahoma and biking Vermont’s covered bridges, staying in country inns and seeing the colorful foliage of Fall. He was thrilled to bike up Mt Evans in Colorado and to hike Grand Canyon to the bottom and back up. He and his wife, Marilou, enjoyed traveling both in the States and overseas, interacting with people of other cultures and learning to appreciate the diversity of nature and people. Jerry was a charter member of Disciples Christian Church (DOC), sang in the choir, played conga drums, and served on several commissions for much of 64 years. He has served on the Boards of SPCA and Green Country Free Clinic. He was a supporter of local arts and agencies that help animals and elders. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Disciples Christian Church, 5800 Douglas Lane, Bartlesville, Oklahoma on Friday, December 13, at 11:00 AM. A light lunch will follow and all are welcome.
