Dolores M. Godinez

To family and friends, her name was Lola! Dolores Maria Medina Godinez (1943 - 2024) was born the youngest girl of eight children to Lorenza and Seferino Medina. Her life can be likened to a beautiful love song filled with a little bit of Country,a little bit of Rock 'n' Roll and a whole lot of Motown in her soul. She was the Land of a Thousand Dances, Fashionista Couture, and her infectious smile and laughter illuminated every room she entered. Lola was born in Fairfax, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Bartlesville in 1950 where she attended school and graduated from College High School. While attending a Mexican fiesta in Chanute, Kansas, she met the love of her life, Andy Godinez, they married and started a family in Chanute. Early in marriage, she suffered the loss of a daughter and later met with unfortunate circumstances with the loss of her husband and became a single mother of two young boys. She continued to live and raise her boys in Chanute, until making the move back to her hometown of Bartlesville to be near family. After returning to Bartlesville, Lola worked at Jane Phillips Hospital for a number of years until retiring. She was a parishioner at St. John's and loved her Catholic faith. Lola was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was close to and proud of her grandsons and it is said that she had a sixth sense of when they were hurt or in need of help. Lola was family oriented and served as caregiver, mentor, confidant, coach, and entertainer to her large extended family and close friends. After struggling with a heart condition, Lola's final moments were spent peacefully in her childhood home in Bartlesville, surrounded by family. Her favorite song was Ain't No Stopping Us Now and there was no stopping her to be reunited with her Heavenly family. Lola's family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life and not the sorrow in her passing. She is survived by her son, John Godinez, grandsons, Jaren Godinez, Dominic Godinez and Brenton Walter. She is also survived by her siblings Juanita Casillas, Maria and Joseph Richard, Vincent and Teresa Medina all residing in OK and Toni and Thomas Feleccia of IL, and nieces and nephews to numerous to name. She is preceded in death by her husband, Andy Godinez, son, Alex and daughter, Julianna. A rosary will be held at Stumpff Funeral Home on April 19, 2024 at 5:00pm and the memorial service at St. John Before the Latin Gate on April 20, 2024 at 10:00am.
