BETTY IRENE COLE Betty Irene (Sharpton) Cole died at 8:45 AM on Friday, January 20, 2012 in Bartlesville. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday January 23, 2012 in the Dewey First Christian Church with Minister Casey Parham officiating. Interment will be in the Dewey Cemetery under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory. Betty Irene (Sharpton) Cole was born April 28, 1926 at Portia, (Lawrence Co.) Arkansas to Homer W. Sharpton and Lena Sarah (Gannon) (Sharpton) Bowser. She was reared in Dewey, Oklahoma, graduating with the Class of 1944. Mrs. Cole was married to Virgil Paul Cole, son of Henry Paul and Ethel Mae (Griggs) Cole, on February 1, 1947 in Dewey, Oklahoma. Mrs. Cole started her working career with Phillips 66 Company a few weeks before graduating in 1944. She worked in the Treasury Department Banking section retiring in 1984 after 40 years of service. Betty was a member of the First Christian Church, Dewey, Oklahoma and baptized into the Christian faith on April 13, 1952. She was an avid golfer, when she wasn’t on the golf course; she was watching golf on TV. Another passion of Betty’s was the Oklahoma Sooners. She attended the “OU” games whenever possible or was watching a game on the television. She also loved to garden and do cross-stitching. Mrs. Cole was affiliated with the Adams Golf Course, Sunset Hill Golf Course, Ladies Encourager Group at First Christian Church and the Jane Phillips Soriety. Survivors include her children son, David Paul Cole and wife Mary (Burks) Cole of Tulsa, Oklahoma and son Steven Mark Cole and wife Betty Jean (Burnett) Cole of Picher, Oklahoma; grandchildren David Paul Cole, II, Deanna Dawn (Cole) McBride, and husband Skip McBride, Zackary Steven Cole and wife Amanda (Hart) Cole; great-grandchildren Jessica Jean McBride, Dusty Joe McBride, Kacie Breann Hart Cole, Joshua Steven Hart Cole and Trenton Reice Hart Cole; two sisters Ruby Fern (Sharpton) Moody and Catherine, Christine (Sharpton) Lyke both of Dewey; special cousin Ruth Proctor of Dewey, Oklahoma; three step-sisters: Rosemary (Miller) Person, Connie Sharpton and Sharon (Sharpton) Wilmon; several more cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, one brother, step-mother Vesta Sharpton and step-father Ike Bowser. PDF Printable Version
