Wayne Arthur Askins

Wayne A. Askins, age 81, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in Tulsa, Ok. He was born March 14, 1943, to Carl and Iris Askins in Winfield, Kansas. Wayne grew up in Winfield and became a welder by trade. He started working for Cities Service Gas Co. in Winfield as a “B” repairman and worked his way up to Division Welder at Pampa, TX. Wayne was responsible for overseeing several large construction projects in locations across the country. Through his years with the company, he became a Foreman, Supervisor, Superintendent, and Manager with Southern Star. He retired in 1999 after 34 years of loyal leadership and service. With his first wife, Wayne had two sons, Jeff and Brad. The family moved several times with Wayne’s job and traveled throughout the western United States. Living in Wyoming was especially memorable and brought many new adventures and experiences that were held dear to Wayne and his sons. In 2005, Wayne married Kathi. They enjoyed tending to their home and sharing it, throughout the years, with their beloved cats and dogs with a special fondness for German Shepherds. Wayne could always be found helping a neighbor or family member when they needed it. With some ingenuity and problem solving, there was never a project he couldn’t tackle. Wayne loved his family and cared for them deeply. His grandchildren looked forward to visits because they knew a go cart or four-wheeler was tuned up and ready to go. They could spend hours speeding through the fields under Wayne’s watchful eye. Wayne was a friend to many, and his memory will live on through all that knew him. Wayne is survived by his wife, one son, a daughter-in-law, two stepdaughters, a son-in-law, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, two siblings, and one son. The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out at this time of loss. Additionally, they would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Ascension St. John’s Cardiovascular ICU in Tulsa for their dedicated care. Out of respect for Wayne’s wishes, there will be no funeral or service. The family will announce an informal gathering of friends and family at a later time.
