Mr. Thurman Leo Whinery Mr. Thurman Leo Whinery, 66, of Dewey, died Tuesday morning, September 3, 2013 in his home with his loving wife of 38 years by his side. Memorial services will be held on Monday, September 9, 2013, at 3:00 PM in the Bartlesville Southern Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Rummage officiating. Memorial services and cremation arrangements will be directed by the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory. A memorial has been established and those who wish to make a contribution in memory of Mr. Whinery may do so to; Bartlesville Southern Baptist Church, Building Fund, 5200 SE Nowata Rd. Suite –A, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74006. Thurman Leo Whinery was born March 6, 1947 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma to Robert Marshall and Lona (Cole) Whinery. He was raised and received his education in Barnsdall. He entered the U.S. Army in 1967 and served two years before receiving his honorable discharge. Thurman was married to Lila Rae Burns on February 7, 1975 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in Norwalk, California before moving to Bartlesville, in 1988. Thurman has been involved in metal manufacturing all his working life. He attended Bartlesville Southern Baptist Church, enjoyed drag racing and stock car races and spending time with his wife and family. Survivors include: his wife Lila Rae Whinery of the family home in Dewey, Oklahoma; three daughters Trisha Ford and her husband Richard of Bartlesville; Kristie Kovacs of St. George, Utah and Raeann Whinery of Bartlesville; five brothers Orville Whinery and his wife Alice of Pampa, Texas, Paul Whinery and his wife Beverly of Barnsdall, Gene Whinery of Pawhuska, Bill Whinery and his wife Martha of Bartlesville and Bobby Whinery of Barnsdall; two sisters Rose Scarboro (Aunt Bunny) and her husband Johnny of Chester, Georgia and Della Cole also of Chester, Georgia; six grandchildren, Jessica Ford, Marissa Ford, Sara McElyea, Kara Danielle Rush, Derek Rush and Gracie Kovacs; one great grandchild Adilyn Bevard and several nieces and nephews. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Letha Cato, Alice Elsworth and Pauline Whinery and one brother Albert Whinery (Uncle Cracker).
