Sandra LaVerne Miles

Sandra Laverne Miles, age 73, went to be with her lord on February 21, 2019 while staying at the Journey Home Hospice Care Center, in Bartlesville Oklahoma. While we know that Sandy is now dancing in heaven with no suffering her husband, family, and friends she left behind will miss her dearly. We look forward to the time that we can see her and hear her sweet voice once again. Sandy was born in Guthrie Oklahoma 1945 to Wilbur and Mae Bass. She was the only girl in a sibling group of four. She was feisty and independent and held her own with her ragtag group of brothers. Throughout the years, she had to set them straight many times. Sandy was a 1963 graduate of Edmond High School. She went to college at University of Central Oklahoma. She finished her bachelor’s degree of Nursing at Rogers State, Claremore OK. Sandra was a nurse for thirty years and retired from nursing in 2008. She was a caretaker at work and a caretaker at home when the need arose. Sandy was a natural nurse at heart. Sandy and Gary wed in the spring of 1964. Gary recounts, that the first time he saw Sandy in the pews of the little Baptist church in Olustee that after church he practically broke his neck to get around front to garner an introduction at the front door. He said from the moment he saw her he knew she was the one. They were married for 54 years. They were together in life constantly and shared life to the fullest. Sandra loved the outdoors and gardening. For many years, Sandy nurtured and grew plants and created spectacular flower beds. Sandy loved beautiful flowers in the garden and in her home decor. Sandy’s gardens were beautiful and one year her gardens were featured as part of the annual Bartlesville Garden Tour. Sandra fed the fox, deer, squirrels, and birds in her neighborhood. Sandy and Gary enjoyed sitting on the deck and watching the wildlife. Sandy loved her family and took special care of anyone in need and she provided for senior family members for many years. Sandy would travel back and forth from Bartlesville to Guthrie to be with her mother all that she could. She would always bring her mom fresh flowers and little gifts anything to please her. Sandy loved the lord and served her lord faithfully. She had a daily walk with her Jesus. Sandy and Gary Joined First Baptist of Bartlesville in 1988. She enjoyed singing and was part of the choir for many years. Sandy loved to serve her lord and she participated in multiple mission trips to Nicaragua Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International. Sandra is survived by her husband Gary Miles, mother Mae Bass, three brothers; Vernon Bass, Everett Bass, and Alan Bass. In addition two sisters-in-law Joanne Bass, and Janie Bass, countless cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her family was large but the hole Sandy has left is even larger. We will miss you forever Sandy. Service time for Sandy’s memorial is Thursday February 28, 2019 at 1:30 P.M. at the First Baptist Church of Bartlesville Oklahoma 405 S Cherokee Ave, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
