Robert "Ken" Kenneth Echer

Robert Kenneth Echer, 71, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Bartlesville Health & Rehab after a lengthy struggle with emphysema. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at a Lake Murray area home, 60 Cisco Road, Ardmore, on Saturday, April 13th at 11 a.m. Private family interment of the cremated remains will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, Oklahoma. He was born in Oklahoma City on February 16, 1948 to Mary Margaret Levescy and Robert Elton Echer. He grew up in Ardmore and married his high school sweetheart, Wanda Jean Brown, and raised three children there. During that time he worked at CableCom of Ardmore as a cable technician answering calls, fixing televisions, climbing towers and being among the first to install this wonderful new thing in tv viewing called HBO and Showtime. The eighties brought to him a new opportunity working as a waterplant operator for SOWC in the Ardmore Airpark area just south of the Arbuckles. Being someone who enjoyed the outdoors as much as he did, these opportunities kept him busy but happy, with the latter in a more wide-open setting. Many years later he worked with a survey crew and often spoke of the friends he made and the places they traveled. He loved God, his family and friends, and being outdoors hunting or fishing. At one point he grew bored of hunting and fishing so he took up scuba diving, bought himself a speargun, and hunted for fish. When asked what led him to be such an outdoor enthusiast, he replied that his boy scout troop heavily emphasized these skills along with camping. He was hooked for life. He is preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Charles Clifford Bailey; his brother, James Sterlin Echer; his sister, Juanita Ellen Crawford; and his son, James Darin Echer. He is survived by his two daughters: Kenna Michele Echer Hekia and husband John Hekia; and Tracy Lynn Echer Anderson and husband Mark Anderson; seven grandchildren: Kimberly Michele Lewis Phelps and husband Maurice, Ashley Dawn Lewis, Alec Ray Anderson, Andrew Kenneth Anderson, Avery Echer Anderson, Audrie Renee Anderson, and Ayden James Anderson; one great-granddaughter: Kylie Michele Phelps; and two nephews: Johnny Lee Russell and Charles Sterlin Crawford.
