Richard Steven Brown

Richard S. Brown Richard Brown, 58, was born on March 10, 1954 in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Virginia Miller Brown. He passed away Tuesday, May 29th, with his family at his side, after a brief battle with cancer. Family visitation will be held Sunday, June 3rd at Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory from 4 to 7pm. A memorial service will be at 10 am Monday, June 4th at East Cross United Methodist Church with Rev. Chad Perceful officiating. Richard attended schools in Des Moines, Iowa and Memphis, Tenn. before moving with the family to Bartlesville in 1971 where he completed his education. He worked for Safeway/Homeland Grocery Chain from 1973 until the time of his death. Richard was a member of Retail Clerks International Association Local 73 and United Food & Commercial Workers Local 1000. He was a member of the Bartlesville Jaycees. Richard was an active member of East Cross United Methodist Church and served on the nurturing committee. He assisted with their canned food drive, Christmas toys for children and was a children’s church worker. He was always ready and willing to assist where there was a need. He will be missed by all. Richard’s true passion was bowling. He was a long time bowler in the community and a member of the United States Bowling Congress (formerly ABC Bowling Association). He achieved many honors including two 800 series and four perfect games of 300. He bowled in several leagues at the Red Apple Sports Center and participated in the Masters Traveling League. Richard took pride in coaching young bowlers. One of his proudest accomplishments was coaching Ashley Rucker from Wesleyan Christian School who later earned a bowling scholarship to Arkansas State University. He is survived by his mother, Virginia and her husband Chuck Messick of Bartlesville; Brother: Bill (Susan) Brown of Ripley, Tenn.; Sisters: Sue (Morgan) Bunch of Tallahassee, Fl., Judy Allen of Bartlesville, and Kay (Gary) Ruehlen of Bartlesville; Nephew: Robbie (Amber) Stafford; Nieces: Kary Ruehlen, Mandy Delozier, Cynthia Seger, along with many friends and co-workers. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, father. Bob Brown, brother-in-law Dick Allen, and nephew, Tommy Kerr. Memorial contributions may be sent to East Cross United Methodist Church.
