Narda Loy Caton

Narda Loy Caton passed away, at home, on February 20, 2021, in the company of her family. She was born March 28, 1936, to Eva (DePugh) Wilcox, and John W. Wilcox, in Oklahoma City. As a child, her family lived in Oklahoma City, Salt Lake City, UT, and Seiling, OK, before settling in Enid. She attended Enid High School, where she met the love of her life, Jon E. Caton. They lived in Enid, Alva, Lansing (MI), Ponca City, and Bartlesville. After life on a farm north of Copan, they lived in Houston, Rio de Janeiro, St. Louis, Caney (KS), and Tulsa before returning to Bartlesville. Narda always loved art. In her younger years she dabbled with modern dance and ballet, but her primary passion was painting, drawing, and sculpting. She painted portraits of prominent families in the area, and mastered numerous media styles. She was fearless about trying something new. As part of the Oklahoma Centennial commemoration, she was selected as one of one hundred Oklahoma artists to paint one hundred notable Oklahomans. She executed the painting of former Governor and close family friend, “Alfalfa Bill” Murray as a watercolor using only natural Oklahoma soils as pigments. She operated a custom picture-framing business, “Frames ‘n’ Things,” and a shoe store, “The Tannery,” and hosted a cable television show called “Many Facets of Crafting,” featuring her unique line of craft kits. She taught art classes in her home, in her community, and even in remote places like Curacao. She exhibited her work in local art shows, such as OK Mozart, Three Barns, and in the gift shops at Woolaroc and Gilcrease Museum. Narda was active in the Caney Valley Art Association and the Bartlesville Art Association. She made elaborate costume jewelry, which complete strangers would buy from her while she was wearing it. This was not difficult to do, as she was very approachable. Narda was an active member of her local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she made many dear friends. Everywhere she went she encountered people she knew and made new friends. She would always take time to connect with people. Her biggest fan in every way was her sweetheart Jon. He always took amazing and loving care of her, especially the last few years. Her entire immediate family had been at her bedside for several days, celebrating her life and humor. In addition to Jon, her husband of 68 years, she leaves behind her son Kelly Ray Caton and wife Yvonne Dressel of Tulsa; daughter Shaun Collier and husband Bob of Bartlesville; daughter Chelle Visser and husband Rob of Tulsa; grandchildren Olivia Wallace and husband Ryan, Patrick Collier and wife Tori, Eliza Visser, and Sadie Visser; great-granddaughter Emmaline Wallace, and another great-grandchild on the way; sister Carla Sullivan of Stillwater; nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Norma Robb, her brother Michael Wilcox, and her son Kim Caton. Service will be held on March 6, 2021 at 2:30 via Zoom.
