NANCY LEA DUBOIS Nancy Lea “Nan” DuBois, resident at the Barnsdall Nursing Home, passed away on February 13, 2017 surrounded by loved ones, following a decade long battle with dementia. The second oldest of twelve children, she was born August 26, 1935 in Lansing Michigan to Oliver Elijah Sisco and Bessie Margaret (Harshey) Sisco. She received her education in Lansing area schools, leaving before graduation to take a job as a waitress at Woolsworth to help support the family. While working there she met her future husband Ralph M. DuBois, and the two were married in 1956. Out of this union came a son, James and a daughter Yvonne. Following the birth of her son, she became a housewife and maintained the home through many job transfers, including Arkansas, New Mexico and Tulsa. In 1965 the family moved to Dewey, OK, where she lived until the last two years. In 1976, she decided to go back to school and obtained her GED. Following Ralph’s retirement from government service, they became snowbirds, camping in Nevada in the winters and working as gatekeepers for area lakes in the summers. After 32 years of marriage, the couple divorced in 1988 but remained friends. Nan maintained the residence in Dewey until entering assisted living following the death of her son in 2009. Nan was friendly, outgoing, and loved to laugh. She was highly creative, sewing garments for her daughter throughout her school years, some of which won ribbons and prizes at local fairs. She also enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting, quilting, and various craft or home improvement projects. One of her favorite hobbies was to search through thrift stores, resale shops and garage sales for antique furniture that she refinished to its original beauty. Nan enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors, frequently getting together with good friends Judy Morgan, Pam Mills, and Jane Jones to play pinochle, until she had to stop because of her dementia. Nan is preceded in death by her son James DuBois, former husband Ralph DuBois, son-in-law Michael Clem, parents Oliver and Bessie, brothers Larry “Dickie”, Terry, Ernest, and Allen; sisters Elsie Sisco, Isabel (Sisco) Blaylock and Gloria “Beanie” Sisco. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne (DuBois) Clem of Barnsdall and grand-daughter Sierra Clem of Dewey, sisters Donna (Sisco) Garza and Margaret Sisco of Lansing, Michigan, brothers David and Steve of Ithaca, Michigan, friends Richard and Judy Morgan, and Pam Mills of Dewey. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2017, at the Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville. Because of the number of deaths in Nan’s family from cancer, she was a supporter of her daughter and grand-daughter’s Relay for Life team the Relay Rugrats. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society/Relay Rugrats at 4110 S. 100th E. Avenue, Suite 101, Tulsa, OK 74137. Friends who wish may sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www.stumpff.org.
