Maxine F. Snell

Maxine F. Snell, age 95, wife of G.W. (Bill) Snell, died at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at her home in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. A longtime resident, she was the daughter of Frank Johnston and Anna (House) Johnston, born on September 25, 1920 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma – their only child but grew up among many living and caring relatives. She attended local schools, graduating from Bartlesville High School in 1938, going to Bartlesville, Business College. Then, was employed at Third Street Motor Company as stenographer, bookkeeper and girl Friday. On June 17, 194O she married Bill Snell, the love of her life who she met in 1935 in high school and they have been together ever since. Their wedding being a private ceremony at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1941 they began 15 years of traveling, covering many states doing pipeline constructions, laying pipeline all over the United States and Canada. In 1942 their son William Frank was born in Bartlesville. In 1954 their daughter Donna was born in Casper, Wyoming. They returned to Bartlesville in 1955 remaining here the rest of their lives. Maxine was an “at home Mom” but always active in the schools, always available. She worked in the Girl Scouts, PTA, Homeroom Mother, etc. She cared for her parents for many, many years. She also helped with grandchildren when needed. Bill and Maxine traveled extensively after his retirement as a contract welder at Phillips Research Center, Philips Petroleum Company, researching histories of both families and discovering she was direct decedent of Pocahontas. Along with being the historian of their families she enjoyed writing her memoirs. Also doing all sorts of handiwork. She was a proud and loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include husband, Bill Snell of the home; son Bill and Bertta Snell of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, daughter Donna and Stephen Sanmann of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Timi and Bert Wilson of Moore, Oklahoma, grandson Allen Snell of Owasso, Oklahoma, granddaughter Amy Overby of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Linda Norman of Moore, Oklahoma; six great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, several cousins.
