Mary Margaret Thurman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Margaret Thurman, affectionately known as Memaw or Grand Mary to her grandkids, on Monday, October 23, 2023. She left this world surrounded by the love of her family, leaving behind a legacy of enduring love for her family and those closest to her. Born on July 12, 1936, Mary’s life was a testament to the beauty of simplicity, grace, and resilience. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a cherished grandmother who touched the lives of everyone she met. Mary’s love knew no bounds and she made every moment spent with her feel special and cherished. Mary had a remarkable talent for making the ordinary moments extraordinary. She found joy in the simplest things, whether it was shopping for a new outfit, spending time with her family, traveling to a new place she had never been, watching OU beat UT or the Cowboys beat anyone, or sharing stories from her youth that transported us to a different time. Her gentle laughter, warm hugs, and endless patience will be forever etched in our hearts. Throughout her life, Mary was known for her unwavering strength and the wisdom she imparted to all who were fortunate to know her. This was even more apparent after she met and married her husband, Marvin. They taught us the value and importance of family. Their home was always open to those in need, and their door was never closed to a friend or family member who sought her comfort, advice or just wanted to visit. Mary is survived by her husband Marvin, with whom she shared 19 years of love and companionship. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law Darrell and Mary, sister and brother-in-law Sharron and Orville, and sister and brother-in-law Karen and Art, as well a large number of nieces and nephews whom she all loved dearly. In addition, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law Skip and Lisa, grandson and wife Russell and Elena and great grandson Nathan, and grandson and girlfriend Jeremy and Adrienne; son and daughter-in-law Ron and Meredith, grandson and wife Casey and Alicia and great granddaughter Isabelle, and son and girlfriend Alex and Sarah; granddaughter and husband Kristen and Bryan and great granddaughter Reagan. Through marriage Mary was lucky enough to have gained a great many additional children and grandchildren. Those who survive her and help to carry on Marvin’s legacy include stepson and daughter-in-law Marland and Jennifer, grandson Corbin, grandson and wife Cody and Maddie, and granddaughter and husband Hannah and Josh; stepson and daughter-in-law Andrew and Christy, granddaughter Addison and grandson Easton; and stepson and daughter-in-law Bradley and Elizabeth, grandson Ryan, grandson Will and grandson Bradley. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Erma, sister Delores, brother Leroy, sister Joyce, sister Dorothy, and sister Norma Jean. Mary’s spirit lives on in the love she shared, the values she instilled, and the countless memories she created. As we bid farewell to her, we take solace in knowing that her love and wisdom will continue to guide us in the years to come. We know Mary may be gone from our sight, but she will forever remain in our hearts. Her love and light will continue to shine upon us, reminding us to appreciate the beauty in life's simple moments. Rest in peace, dearest Memaw. You will be dearly missed, and your memory will be cherished for generations to come.
