Mrs. Marjorie L. Hodges

Marjorie L. Hodges, known as "Margie" to her friends, was born on a Monday in Munday, TX on June 29, 1925. Her parents were Joe Morrison and Grace (Whittemore) Morrison . Tragedy struck, this being the era of the Great Depression", Margie and her 3 siblings, Kate, Mack and Nell were separated and sent to live with other family members when Margie was very young. Margie was raised by her maternal grandmother and uncle, Mary Jane (MacDonald) ("Mama") and Johnie Whittemore, in Bryan County, OK. Margie graduated from Utica High School in Utica, OK. Following that, she attended Southeastern State in Durant, OK, where she met Dwight Hodges, her husband of 53 years. They were married On May 10, 1946. Honoring her husband's wish that her focus should be their home and family, Margie lived and worked most of her married life in their home in Tulsa, OK, It was there that she cared for their two children, Sandy and Doug. Margie and Dwight moved to Bartlesville, OK, in 1997. After Dwight's death, Margie sold their home and moved to Tallgrass Estates in Bartlesville, OK. For health reasons, Margie moved across town to Sterling House North, where she lived until she went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ on January 24, 2016. Margie is survived by her daughter Sandy and husband Cliff Moss of Collinsville; son Doug Hodges and wife Marla of Bartlesville; five grandchildren, Angela, Melanie, Matthew, Joshua and Mackenzie and eight great grandchildren Rachael, Jeremy, AJ, Avery, Cassie, Quinn, Daxtyn, and Chandler. She is also survived by her older brother Mack Morrison and wife Aline of Plymouth, CA, and many nieces and nephews. Margie was a faithful servant of her Lord Jesus. Her "Mama" taught her well, and having learned well, she was a living testament, both in word and deed, to God's saving grace. Her children, grandchildren, and the many others who knew and loved her have risen up to call her blessed and praise her for the example of her life. Margie was a loving, gracious, kind, quick-witted, and fun loving woman who was devoted to her Lord and His Church, her family and her friends. She loved God's Word and had the habit of prayer. Even during her personal tough times, she had a ready wit and a kind word for those nearby. Margie was a wonderful homemaker and showed wisdom and intelligence in the way she took care of all that the Lord had entrusted to her. Although separated for many years Margie and her siblings reconnected as adults and maintained a close, loving relationship between them and their families. Through the years, many enjoyed the labors of her generous spirit and hands, whether it was some of her delicious cornbread dressing, her strawberry freezer jam, home grown and canned green beans, or clothes that were clean or just missing the "tea stain". It was apparent that she held the old adage "cleanliness is next to Godliness" as true, for she proved it to her family on more than one occasion. Margie found much joy and comfort in reading, music, and poetry, with a particular fondness for many of the old hymns and the poems of Helen Steiner Rice. She shared her love of the Lord and all that He created freely, and will be sorely missed in the days ahead.
