Marion Arthur Cabler

Marion Arthur Cabler, aka Mac or Marfer, went peacefully to be with his Heavenly Father, at the young age of 91, on October 24, 2023. Marion was born on January 13, 1932, in Ninnekah, Oklahoma to Recil Lewis and Opal Orbia Cabler. His family would move to Chickasha, Oklahoma where, in the second grade, he would meet the love of his life and future bride of 72 years, Anita Jewell Anthony. During his school years, Marion excelled at track, running the mile. He worked for Loy’s dairy and would tell you it was “the best job ever because of free vanilla malts”. He would become an active Boy Scout receiving the rank of Eagle at age 15 and becoming the Chief of the Black Beaver Council in the Order of the Arrow. Upon graduation as a proud Chickasha Fighting Chick, Marion moved to Norman, Oklahoma to attend the University of Oklahoma and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. He entered the Army ROTC program at OU where he would serve two years active duty and six years in the reserves, being honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He was a proud Sooner and ardent OU football fan. While in college, Marion and Anita would marry on June 22, 1951. In 1954, Marion accepted a job with Phillips Petroleum Company and retired after 39 years of service. While employed with Phillips, he would work on many interesting projects, moving him around the country and overseas. A few would include Mobot work with the Atomic Energy Research Commission, Phillips Fibers, and Project Engineer for the North Sea Ekofisk project. Marion and Anita would make their home in Bartlesville and were members of East Cross Church. As much as he loved his work, his true passion was for his wife, sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Marion had a love for the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. He continued to be an active scout serving as Pack Master, Troop Leader, and instructor for many merit badges. Marion and Anita shared a love for water gardening and square dancing. But without a doubt, when it came to his grandchildren, he was always there to support them, becoming a fan of soccer, dance, choir, orchestra, theater, science fairs, energy days, math counts, and any other activity they enjoyed. Marion was humble, easy-going, very personable, and often times, whistling a happy tune. He would make friends wherever he went and was always ready to serve others. His legacy will continue to shine through his family and those who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Recil Lewis Cabler and Opal Orbia Cabler; and his brother Donald Lewis Cabler. Marion is survived by his wife Anita Jewell Cabler; his brothers David Cabler and Gary Cabler; his sons Steven Darrell Cabler and wife Kristi, and Phillip Bradley Cabler and wife Vicki; and his grandchildren: Cody Reid Cabler and wife Hadley, Trey Collin Cabler and wife Amanda, Lane Thomas Cabler, and Kessi Nicole Cabler.
