James Andy Townley

James Andy Townley was born May 11th, 1928 and passed on December 25th, 2024 at 3:30am peacefully at his home in Pawhuska, Oklahoma at the young age of 96. He was surrounded by two of his daughters Debi and Pam and his granddaughter Christie. He was the 7th of 10 children of Mary Alice Wilson Townley and Lonzo Cleveland Townley. And if you would ask him, he would say he was his mama’s favorite. On January 16, 1951, he married Barbara Jean Freeman. He was a loving father to James Richard Townley, Gloria Kramer of Oregon, Brenda Flowers (Larry) of Texas, Debi Moody, Pam Pratt, and Tim Townley all of Oklahoma. He was the -greatest Pappo in the world to 15 grandkids, 52 great-grandkids, and 25 great-great- grandkids. He was a father, a son, a brother, a Pappo, uncle, cousin, and friend to many. He had working man hands; worked at National Tank for 15 years, he was a wench truck driver for Scrappy Decker for many years, as well as working many years as an oilfield pumper. He is also a veteran of the United States Army, where he served as a “Moral Booster”. James enjoyed playing dominoes with anyone that would hold still long enough, spending time with his family, tending a garden when he could, going on walks, telling stories, many stories, and telling jokes that made him laugh harder than who he was telling them to. He looked forward to his annual family reunions and visiting with everyone. He loved his coffee, Chiefs football, little apple pies and his maple long johns. He had a special place in his heart for his bonus family, the Garrett’s. He had a strong hand when it was needed and was as gentle as they come when need be. He always seemed to know the right time to be one or the other. He was a sweet man, an onery man, a man of God, and a staple in the Barnsdall/Pawhuska communities. James is preceded in death by Barbara Townley, his two sons Timothy Wayne Townley and James Richard Townley, his daughter Brenda Jolene Flowers, granddaughters Breanna Jo Flowers and Charlene Sheffield, grandson Joshua Elwood, and two great grandkids Christopher Paul Neal and Haleigh Jade Neal. Also preceding him in death were all his siblings, brothers Lucian, Leburn, John, Leo, Almas, and Tom. And sisters Thelma White, Velma Smith, Lillian ‘Sis” Elder.
