Mr. Hugh Gilbert Taylor Jr. Mr. Hugh Gilbert Taylor Jr., 87, of Pershing, Oklahoma, died at 8:13 P.M. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. Funeral services for Mr. Taylor will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, April 11, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Barnsdall, Oklahoma with Rev. Tom Cox officiating. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the South Fork Cemetery at Gurdon, Arkansas with Brother James McCain of the Sycamore Church at Whelen Springs, Arkansas officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Stumpff Barnsdall Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established and those who wish may send their contributions to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 939, Barnsdall, Oklahoma, 74002. Mr. Taylor was born at Mangum, Oklahoma on July 2, 1923 the son of Hugh Gilbert Taylor Sr. and Florence Nightingale (Sweet) Taylor. He grew up and received his education in Mangum and graduated from high school there. He was married to Alla Mae Barfield on August 31, 1952 at the Shady Grove Baptist Church near Curtis, Arkansas. They made their home at Beaver, Oklahoma until moving to Pershing, Oklahoma in 1956 and have made their home there since that time. Mr. Taylor was employed with the USGS Soil Conservation Service for 38 years until his retirement in 1985. He had worked for the conservation service in Oklahoma in Beaver County, Osage County, Nowata County and Washington County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Barnsdall since 1956 where he had served as the church treasurer and the Sunday School Secretary. Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alla Mae Taylor of the home, one son, Hugh Gilbert “Rocky” Taylor Jr. and his wife Gayla of Weatherford, Oklahoma, one daughter, Sheryl Freeman and her husband Trent of Issaquah, Washington, five grandsons, Derek Houck, Adam Houck, Grant Houck, Michael Taylor and Travis Taylor, and a sister-in-law, Blanch Taylor of Wichita Falls, Texas. Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Herbert Wayne Taylor (in infancy) and Franklin Joseph Taylor.
