Hazel Lee Smith

Hazel L Smith 79, of Bartlesville, past away July 16, 2018 in Bartlesville. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday July 20th at the Happy Hill church in Ramona with Rev. Edwina Kidd, Rev. James Feltner, and Rev. Ted Rogers officiating. Jessie Leon Smith, JR., Paul Sluder and James Shaffer will facilitate the celebration service. Final committal rites will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home. Hazel was born on October 16, 1938 in Etta, OK to Cecil J Eden and Lucille M Stewart Eden. After moving to Tahlequah and Wagoner, Hazel and her family settled into the Dewey around 1954. She graduated from high school in 1957. On March 23, 1963 Hazel married Jessie Leon Smith and they made their home in Bartlesville where they raised their 6 children. Hazel was a long-time member of the Pentecostal Tabernacle Church of Bartlesville. Throughout Hazel’s life she was active in the church music department in the choir and leading music in worship. One of the highlights of Hazel’s life were the numerous missions trips she took to Old Mexico. At home, she spent 30 years employed by the ARC Industries; at the time of her retirement she served as the ARC Thrift Store manager. During her years at the ARC, she met many people who came to the shop and these people became friends. She is survived by 3 daughters; Janet and husband Paul Sluder of Tyler, TX., Joni Thornbrough of Bartlesville, and Pam Smith of Bartlesville. 2 sons; Jessie Leon and wife Debra Smith of Bartlesville, and James and wife Glenda Shaffer of Inola, OK. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. 3 brothers; James and wife Marie Eden, Glin and wife Sharon Eden, and Charles and wife Audrey Eden, all of Dewey, OK. 2 sister-in-laws; Sue Gay of Bartlesville and Donna Smith of Charitin, IA. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Leon Smith, parents Cecil and Lucille Eden, 1 son, Thomas Smith, a son-in-law, Harvey Thornbrough, 1 granddaughter Amanda Whaling, great grandson Jason Thornbrough, 2 sisters, Oleta Lawhorn and Juanita Shaffer.
