Glendia Darlene Goodwin

It is with heartfelt grief and grateful memories that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Glendia Darlene (Clark) Goodwin, 77, of Buckeye, Arizona, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Bartlesville, OK. She was a pillar of strength and love for her family and friends, and her presence will be deeply missed. Glendia was born May 8, 1947, in Los Angeles, California, to Glen Durwood Clark and Neoma Jean (Harris) Clark. Glendia grew up in Lakewood, CA. She was the second born of four: sister Rose (Clark) Rains, brother Rodger, and sister Jan (Clark) Osborne. Glendia married the love of her life, Robert Lloyd Goodwin, on November 20, 1965. Bob and Glendia both worked in the furniture and mattress business, and they eventually owned their own daybed and mattress retail store in Rancho Cucamonga, CA, for many years until they retired in Buckeye, Arizona. Glendia was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, and youngest sister Jan. Glendia was a devoted mother to 3 surviving daughters: Melissa (Goodwin) Eickman (and husband David) of San Bernardino, CA; Robin (Goodwin) Schouweiler (and husband Charlie) of Bartlesville, OK; and Tamara (Goodwin) Liberati of Buckeye, AZ. Glendia was a doting and fun-loving grandmother to 10 surviving grandchildren: Allen, Stephanie, Nicholas, Carlie, Chloee, Ryan, Erik, Annika, Rheannean, and Kimberly. Additionally, she had the great joy of loving on 8 great grandchildren: Noah, Marissa, Cheyenne, Krysta, Jaymes, Riley, Liam, and Myles. Glendia’s family truly was her greatest joy. Glendia was an amazing seamstress and quilter and spent most of her days sewing. She made a prolific collection of kitchen towel sets, as well as many quilts and clothing items. Every baby shower, every wedding, and prom was marked by a special gift from her sewing room. Glendia was known for her kind heart, humor, and unwavering love and faith. Daughter Robin says that “Mom always had an ear to listen to me whether I needed to complain, get advice, or just tell a silly story. She was up for adventures as well, like driving to 5 different casinos in Oklahoma in one day.” Glendia embraced life and made even the little moments into memories. Glendia’s granddaughter Stephanie recalls blissful summer days spent by the pool, endless snow cones, night swimming, and “Grandma teasing us kids about getting a moonburn.” Granddaughter Carlie says, “I remember going to my first baseball game with Grandma to see the LA Angels play. After the game, we got to meet Kole Calhoun, one of their players, whom Grandma knew ever since he was a little kid swimming in her pool.” Other grandchildren mention family dinner nights, movie nights at Grandma’s, sleepovers, and late-night talks on the patio that stretched into the dark hours of the morning. Granddaughter Stephanie also says, “Our conversations were always full of laughter and sometimes tears. She shaped me in ways I’ll forever be grateful for. She was by my side through everything–every victory, every failure, every lesson learned. When I needed someone to console me, she was there. When I needed someone to cheer me on, she was there. She taught me to fight for what I believed in, to choose my battles wisely, and to care for the things and people I love. Her love extended beyond just teaching me skills—she gave me resilience, strength, and a fierce spirit that I carry with me today.” Glendia was an excellent cook and baker, firmly believing in making delicious and lovely food from scratch. Instant potatoes from the box was an abomination in her kitchen. Daughter Robin says, “Mom always took the time to share her talents, I would call her and she would be at her friends house teaching them how to can and preserve fruits to make jam, just as she taught me.” Overall, those who love her remember her humor. “I remember the laughter always echoing through her house,” says granddaughter Stephanie. “Even in her declining moments, she never lost her sense of humor or her love for us. Her presence is woven into every part of my life, and I wouldn’t be who I am without her.” Niece Vangie Goodwin writes, “Glendia was one of a kind, just like her husband, Bob. She had the best sense of humor and didn’t take any $hit from anyone! She was a believer in God, and I’m so glad she’s finally at peace in the presence of her Savior.” Glendia was a fun but stubborn individual, and she loved Baskin Robbins and Barnes & Noble. Her grandchildren recall fond memories of watching The Hammer or The Big Bang Theory with her, enjoying the pool under the night sky, and eating her fresh-baked cookies. Her favorite song was “Unchained Melody” by the Righteous Brothers, and her daughters say that her most common saying was “Get in, sit down, buckle up, shut up, and hang on!” Glendia leaves behind a legacy of life and laughter. Her family is comforted by the knowledge that she is now living in eternity with her Savior Jesus… and probably getting into shenanigans again with her husband Bob, too. A celebration of Glendia's life will be held at Sundance Golf Course in Buckeye, AZ, on February 22, 2025. She will forever remain in our hearts and memories. We look forward to reuniting in heaven.
