Frances Holm Crum

Frances Marie (Holm) Crum Frances Marie (Holm) Crum quietly passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2012, in the Pleasant Valley Nursing Center, Sedan, Kansas. Frances was born on May 29, 1918, to Kirol Raymond and Ghyneth Mae (Breene) Holm in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Just before her birth her parents had moved from Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her grandparents, Henry John and Geneva (Hopper) Holm and Francis “Frank” Maurice and Mabel (Gray) Breene, came to Bartlesville, Indian Territory, in 1904. Frances attended Monte Cassino High School, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and graduated in 1935. Frances was a student of dance all through her life. She studied with Bess Roberts and June Runyon while she was growing up and into her college years. She performed many times in Tulsa and at Tulsa University while she was attending there. She received her BA degree in fine arts from Tulsa University in 1940. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. On September 6, 1940, Frances married Jay Arnold Crum of Tulsa in the Christ the King Catholic Church, Tulsa, Oklahoma. They made their home in Tulsa. Jay was a reporter for the Tulsa World until 1941 when he entered the U.S. Navy. He spent four years as a single engine pilot. In 1946, Jay became employed by American Airlines and worked with that company until his sudden death in 1955 while the Crums were living in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Frances received another degree in music from Newton College in Massachusetts and moved on to teaching in private Catholic schools around the country until her retirement. At that time she moved back to Tulsa, then to Bartlesville and finally to Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, son, Jay Arnold Crum, Jr., daughter, Theresa Marie Crum, older brother, Kirol Raymond Holm, Jr., younger brother, Henry John Holm, and her sister, Mary Louise (Holm) Barbour. She is survived by nieces, nephews and several cousins. There will be a private family service for Frances H. Crum in the Calvary Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. PDF Printable Version
