Mrs. Elva Cleo Lunsford Mrs. Elva Cleo Lunsford, 99, of Nowata, died at 3:20 P.M. on Wednesday, August 23, 2012 at the Osage Nursing Home in Nowata. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery with Larry Miller of the Warriors for Christ in Bartlesville officiating. Interment will be in the Nowata Memorial Park Cemetery directed by the Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the Stumpff-Nowata Funeral Home from 9 AM to 9 PM Friday and Saturday and 1 P.M. until 6 P.M. on Sunday. Casket escorts will include Bo Hughes, Bill Lunsford, Dan Hughes, Les Lunsford, Michael McKisson and Michael Berry. Honorary casket escorts will include Matt Lunsford, Eric Lunsford, Dan Lunsford and Will Lunsford. Mrs. Lunsford was born in Nowata County on April 1, 1913 to Dovie Lee (Royer) and Wilmot Newton Hewitt Sr. She grew up and received her education in Nowata and Rogers counties and had attended several schools in the area including the Diamond Point School. She was married to William Gordon Lunsford Sr. on September 20, 1934 at Nowata. They made their home at Talala and later in the Claremore area until returning to Nowata to make their home in the mid 1940’s. Mr. Lunsford was active in oil field work and pipe yards work until his retirement from Pierce Pipe & Supply. Mrs. Lunsford was active as a homemaker and stay at home mother. Mr. Lunsford preceded her in death on December 29, 1984 and she has continued her home in Nowata since that time. Mrs. Lunsford liked to play cards and bingo, always had a big garden and canned foods from her garden, was an excellent cook and fed anyone who came to her house. Mrs. Lunsford is survived by her children including five sons, Curtis Lee Lunsford and wife Nancy of Nowata, Melvin Harold Lunsford of Claremore, Billy Eugene Lunsford and wife Shirley of Delaware, William Gordon (Buster)Lunsford Jr. of Nowata and Eldon Merle Lunsford of Nowata, two daughters, Ruth Helen Sherrill of Nowata and Margaret Sue Hughes and husband, Wayne of Nowata, two sisters, Laura Marie Johnson of Bartlesville and Goldie Beatrice Hadley of Dewey, one brother, Ernest Eugene Hewitt of Bartlesville, 15 grandkids, 32 great grandkids and a host of great great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Lunsford, her parents, five brothers, Harold, Lloyd, Bill, Cecil and Merle, two sisters, Geraldine Glenn and Alta Vedrickson, and two grandchildren, Jennifer Jane Berry and Jimbo Sherrill.
