Doris Jean Floyd

Doris Jean Floyd was born on October 5th, 1929 in Roanoke Virginia to Wiley Monroe and Bertha Mae Garst. She was one of six children, two of whom passed away during childhood. She was raised on Garst Family Dairy. Doris attended Bridgewater College in Virginia where she met and fell in love with John Dewitt Floyd. They were married on September 10, 1949. John and Doris had three children. John Floyd of Milton, DE. Jim Floyd of Middletown, DE. Linda Ritchie of Bartlesville, OK. Doris and Jack raised their family in Wilmington DE. Jack, a chemist for Hercules Chemical Company relocated to Bartlesville, OK to head up a merger with Phillips Petroleum from 1978-1983 before returning back to Wilmington. Upon retirement Jack and Doris moved onto their own piece of the eastern shore they loved and lived off of the Chesapeake Bay on Fairlee Creek. Doris was widowed in 1993 and eventually moved into the neighboring town of Chestertown. Doris was a Deacon of the Presbyterian Church of Chestertown. Doris was also an avid volunteer and served on many boards including Horizons, Kart, and the Hospital Auxiliary Board. She actively volunteered with the Chestertown Hospital, American Cancer Society, Red Cross, Hospice, Horizons, Kart, Nearly New, Garden Club and Port of Chester Questers. Doris moved to Bartlesville in 2013 to join her daughter Linda and son-in-law Pat Ritchie. Since moving back to Bartlesville, Doris enjoyed many new friendships and spent much of her time with her family. Doris was an active traveler and enjoyed being on the water of the eastern shore. Doris’s favorite times were spent with her family; her three children, two daughters in law, son in law, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Doris Jean Floyd went peacefully to be with the Lord on the evening of Saturday, September 29th, 2018. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, October 25th 2:00pm at First Church Bartlesville. An additional celebration of life and burial next to her husband will take place Oct. 27 at First Presbyterian Church at 2:00pm in Chestertown, MD. She is survived by her brother: Paul Garst; children: John & Deb Floyd, Jim & Barb Floyd, Pat & Linda Ritchie; grandchildren: Johnny & Katie Floyd, Kimberly & Lucas McBride, Timmy & Mary Kate Floyd, Christina & Eric Aronson, JP Ritchie, Kaitlyn Ritchie; Great Grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Declan, Nora, Parker, Mason, Emma, Max, Ava; and many dear friends. The family would like to thank Grace Hospice and her wonderful caregivers for their love and support throughout her illness.
