Donna Jean Hosey

Donna Jean (Nye) Hosey was born on March 28, 1937 in Akron, Ohio. Her father was Julius Leroy Nye and her mother was Myrna Madelyn Henneman Nye (Stauffer). She was the second of four girls. She grew up in the Akron area; but due to the illness of both parents, she lived first with various relatives and finally in the state orphanage. At the age of 11, Donna was placed with a foster family in Akron, Russell and Mary Clauser. She lived with them until high school, and they gave her the home she never had. They became and remained her family for the rest of her life. Donna was returned to her mother after her mother remarried. Through grit and determination, she was able to graduate in May of 1955 from Chaulker High School, in Southington, Ohio. She was the only person in her family ever to accomplish that. After graduation, Donna began working as a secretary there in Akron. One of her sisters had married and moved to California and invited Donna to join them, which she did arriving on her birthday in 1957. It was there that she met Wayne A. Hosey who was determined to court her. It didn’t take long, and they were married in the Santa Ana Church of the Nazarene on September 6, 1957 at the Santa Ana Church of the Nazarene. Donna and Wayne moved to Orange, CA and began both their family and their careers. They were blessed with three children: Cathy, Michael, and Russell. Donna began her employment with State Farm Insurance, working in a file room. In 1964, Donna and Wayne made the decision to move to Albuquerque, NM. Wayne was able to transfer with his employer, Sears; and Donna was able to transfer to the State Farm Claims office there. During the following years, Donna distinguished herself at work. She went from doing secretarial work to becoming a claims adjuster, to becoming the first female field adjuster the company ever had. By the time she retired in 1999, she had risen to become one of only four women nationwide in upper management with State Farm. Throughout their lives, Donna and Wayne loved to travel. They always owned an RV of some sort. They eventually visited all 50 states, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Upon retirement, they relocated, along with their daughter and family, to Topeka, Kansas. Then in 2012, they decided to move to Bartlesville where their pastor son was located. They continued to travel as they could, but Donna had begun to battle the pulmonary disease what would eventually take her life. She died on August 9 at the young age of 87 years. Donna is survived by her husband of 66 years, Wayne A Hosey (it would have been 67 years next month). Her daughter, Cathy Henley and her husband Mark of Albuquerque, NM, her son Michael Hosey of Bartlesville, and her son Russell Hosey of Bartlesville; her four grandchildren: Jamie Brusuelas and her husband Johnny of Albuquerque, NM; Jeffrey Hosey and his wife Joleen of Bartlesville, Melanie Hosey of Bartlesville, and Lauren Henley and her husband Charles of Albuquerque, NM; her two step-grandsons: Andrew Goodwin and his wife Chris of Littleton, Co, and Roger Goodwin and his wife Shea of Littleton, CO; her ten great grandchildren; her sister, Ruth Jacobsen and husband Rolf of Westminster, CA.
