Donald Duane Redmond Sr.

Donald Duane "REX" Redmond Sr., age 90, of Muskogee, OK., passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Tulsa, OK., at St. Francis Hospital. Rex was born on February 10, 1935, in Warren, Ohio to Donald Arthur Redmond and Mabel Carolyn (Hutcheson) Redmond. Rex enlisted in the Marines and was stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, NC. He married Jennie Lee (Howard) on June 5, 1955, in Jacksonville, NC., and raised three children, Donald Jr., Raymond and Cathi. After more than 20 years of service as a Marine, he was honorably discharged as CWO-4 and had received a Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, a Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, Vietnamese Service Medal with 2 Stars, Purple Heart, Vietnamese Campaign Medal with device, Distinguished Flying Cross, Vietnamese Service Medal with 6 Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm, Navy Commendation with Combat "V", Strike Flight Air Medal, Letter of Recognition, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation and numerous other awards. After his discharge, the family moved to Skiatook, OK., and he went to work for Century Geophysical Corp., in Tulsa, as Truck Shop Supervisor, working on logging trucks and the owner's personal airplane. Rex worked there for more than 20 years. Rex's hobbies were woodworking, sailing, he had owned several sailboats, flying airplanes, he had a pilot license and at one time owned his own Stearman Airplane. He enjoyed Monday night Auctions in Skiatook, with Richard Barnes (who was very entertaining). He collected guns, enjoyed listening to fiddle music and played the fiddle himself, was a great square dancer and member of the Skiatook Scramblers and later the Twilight Twisters. He liked the Peanuts character Snoopy, and playing card games like UNO, SKIPBO and Pinocle, and board game Acey Deucey and working the crossword puzzle from the newspaper. After wife Jennie passed away in 2017 in Skiatook, where they had made their home for over 40 years, he moved to Muskogee, OK., and married Teresa Y. Prater in 2018, then adopted her twin grandchildren, Gabrielle and Giovanni, aged 5 yrs. Survived by his wife Teresa, of the home, his sons Donald Redmond, Jr., (Susan), of North Carolina., Raymond Redmond, (Pam), of Skiatook, OK., daughter, Cathi Redmond, of Colorado, one sister Joan M. (Redmond) Meehan of Ohio, his bonus children Gabrielle and Giovanni, sister-in-law, Catherine (Howard) Joplin and his niece Mandie Joplin, both of California, his grandchildren, Andrew and Sarah Redmond, and Emily Caldwell, Mother-in-law, Ramona Prater, and 3 step-daughters, Melissa Nicholson, Susan Farris, Elizabeth Clark and his beloved Akita dog, Kiyomi, plus many more extended family members. He was preceded by both parents Donald and Mable Redmond and first wife Jennie (Howard) Redmond. A Private Family graveside service will be in Jacksonville, NC., at the Jacksonville City Cemetery, in the Howard Family Plot, next to Jennie Redmond.
