Born November 9, 1939, on a small farm near Doland, SD, to Harry and Leontine (Smith) Brown, he was the fifth of six children. Delvin attended Doland and Redfield, SD, schools, as well as Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. He was a proud Vietnam Era veteran of the United States Air Force, a role that would later fuel his passion for flying and a life of adventure. He carried this spirit of exploration into his personal life, enjoying boating and water skiing, snow skiing, hunting, and traveling. His zest for life and the great outdoors brought joy not just to him but to countless friends and family members who shared in his adventures. Del was married to his beloved wife, Ruth (Siebrands) Brown, for 55 years. Together they raised three daughters: Laura (Patrick) Fish, Sioux Falls, SD; Cheryl Brown, Sioux Falls, SD; and Susan (Eric) Mills, Bartlesville, OK. He was a faithful husband and a dedicated father, instilling in his daughters the values of kindness, hard work, and generosity. His love for his family was evident in everything he did, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments. Professionally, Del wore many hats throughout his life. He and his wife, Ruth, were owners and administrators of James Valley Nursing Home in Redfield, SD, where they touched the lives of many residents and their families. Del was a talented accountant and also later worked for the U.S. Postal Service, always approaching his work with diligence and integrity. Del was a devoted follower of Jesus whose generosity knew no bounds. He was always willing to offer his time and resources to those in need. His compassionate spirit and commitment to serving others left an indelible mark on his community. Del is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; his daughters, Laurie, Cheryl, and Susan; grandchildren Daniel and Thomas Fish, Reagan, Katelyn and Hope Mills; one brother, Dale Brown, Newark, OH; one sister, Noni (Delbert) Frericks, Branson, MO; and a host of extended family and friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Russell and sister LaVonne, and was able to greet his sister Sally when she entered heaven two days after him on Sunday, December 29. A celebration of Del’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at Stumpff Funeral Home in Bartlesville, OK. The service will be livestreamed. A memorial open house will be held at Linwood Wesleyan Church in Sioux Falls, SD, on Saturday, January 11, from 2-4 P.M. Rejoice in heaven, Del.
