David Grant Yountz

David Grant Yountz was born December 12, 1944, the first of two children born to David and Mildred(Dyer)Yountz. With cradle tied to bow, he lived his first four years on a barge captained by his father in the Chesapeake Bay. In 1948, a great Nor’easter threatened the eastern shore. David’s father called to his mother that he would bring the ship into a safe harbor, and she was to find them a home. He then went out to calmer waters to wait out the storm. The family of four then made their home in Wilmington, Delaware. At 17 years old, David joined the Marine Corps. He served from 1962-1966. Two years later his brother, Sonny, also a marine, was killed. This was David’s greatest heartbreak. December 10, 1966, David married Arleen Denny and moved to New Castle, where they raised three children. David worked for Pepsi Cola as a route driver and later worked till retirement at the Delaware State Hospital where he was a vocational rehabilitation counselor. He also supervised a workshop that helped handicapped people find work. The workshop got recognized by the governor. David loved his work helping people. Two uncommon things he did during his life were to cruise on a windjammer and fly in a hot air balloon. At 55, David retired and moved to the plains of Oklahoma. On May 20, 2006, he married Cathy Wallace and helped raise her young son, Jonathan. They lived out his life together with his many pets on his beloved 12 acres. On March 19, David suffered a stroke from which he did not recover. He died, surrounded by his family, including both wives, his children, and grandchildren, on March 26, 2025. He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother and one stepdaughter. Surviving are his wife, Catherine Yountz and his 6 stepchildren, ex-wife, Arleen Corradetti, Bear, Delaware, daughter, Nicole Mozzoni (Matt) of Rogers, Arkansas, son, Joseph Yountz (Angie) Pea Ridge, Arkansas, and Jonathan Yountz, Ft Worth, TX. Also surviving are many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and pets, Sheldon, Lady, and Butternut. A memorial service is planned for April 12, at 2pm in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel.
