CHARLENE BROOKSHIRE HALL GABEL Charlene Brookshire Hall Gabel of Bartlesville died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Saint John’s Medical Center, Tulsa, after suffering a massive stroke following surgery. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 13 in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Sherman Jaquess officiating. Funeral services and interment will be under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army 101 N. Bucy Bartlesville, OK. 74003. Charlene was born in Bartlesville on August 15, 1937 to Virgil Lee and Marie (O’Neal) Brookshire. Out of five children born to Lee & Marie, Charlene was the only girl. All but one of her brothers, Ed Brookshire, preceded her in death. She was raised and received her education in Bartlesville. In 1954 she married Glen Ray Hall and they made their home in Bartlesville. Of this marriage, four children were born; Helen Greer and husband, Tom, of Dewey, OK, Vicki Sousa of Grand Lake, OK, Barbara Hopper and husband, Kim, of Bartlesville, OK, and Jeff Hall of Durham, NC. In 1975, Charlene married a wonderful man from Nebraska, John Gabel. They made their home in Bartlesville, as well as their family business, Able Gabel’s Welding. During their 39 years of marriage, John was a wonderful companion and husband to Charlene, and was and is a giving and caring father to her four children, as well as an awesome Papa to her four grandsons, Travis Sousa and wife, Lacey, of Dewey, OK, Spencer Hopper and wife, Stephanee, of Bartlesville, OK, Clint Auschwitz and wife, Erin, of Barnsdall, OK, and Lucas Hopper of Bartlesville, OK; four great-grandsons, Colton and Carson Auschwitz, Dylan Sousa, and Dutch Hopper; and one great-granddaughter, Ava Hopper. In addition to those listed above, Charlene is survived by her sister-in-laws, Sherry Brookshire and Eva Brookshire; her three step-daughters, Tammy Stillion, Tina Gabel and Tara Ball; her eight step-grandchildren, Heather Wise, Johnny Stillion, Dakota Banta, Samantha Watkins, Janice Saunders, Andrew Banvs, Chris Brodye, and Cody Vance; and fourteen step-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Virgil, Fred & Thomas Brookshire. Charlene’s smile and laughter were infectious and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
