Billy Ray Wright

Billy Ray “Bill” Wright was born December 5, 1935, Garfield, Arkansas to his parents Ruth and Clyde Wright. He had three siblings: Katherine, John Litsy (JL), and Donald. Bill graduated from Vera High School in 1953. As a young man, he was known for his nice cars and good looks! He began his career as a draftsman at Phillips Petroleum in Bartlesville before transitioning to a company eventually known as OXY Petroleum in Tulsa. He married Mary Jo Woodworth in 1955, and they were blessed with three children: Roy Lee, Michael Ray, and Lisa Jo. Bill’s children enjoyed going water skiing on the lake, attending church together, and learning about farming and ranching from their dad. In his spare time, Bill restored classic trucks and tractors. Bill was a true example of a public servant and loved to volunteer his time to his community. He served as a mason in the Masonic Lodge and later was a member of The Gideons International. He also served on the Caney Valley school board. Bill married Joan Wright on December 2, 1972. They enjoyed a beautiful 50 years of marriage together before Joan passed away in 2022. Bill and Joan were long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Ramona. Bill generously volunteered his time, skills, and resources to assist with expanding the church’s facilities and programs. The Wrights were devout Christians who cared deeply about sharing their faith with family and friends. They also enjoyed traveling all over the United States, and saw many miles and landmarks over the years. Bill is known for being a man of God. He truly practiced what he preached, and impacted countless people with his spirit and strong faith. Though he passed from this life on July 27, 2026, Bill’s legacy will live on through his family and community. He is preceded in death by his parents, his older siblings, his son, Mike, and his wife, Joan. he will be remembered by a large family including his brother, Don Wright; his children Roy Wright and Lisa Penick; his grandchildren Dustin Tessier, Amy Houser, Macy Schmidt, Cody Penick, and Tyler Penick; his nine great-grandchildren; his many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. We will always remember Bill as a giving, patient, and honorable family man. He will be missed very dearly.
