Ann Morrow Mills Ann Morrow Mills, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and Girl Scout Leader, passed away on January 28, 2016. She was born in 1930 in Nashville, TN and pursued her undergraduate studies in biology at Southwestern College at Memphis. It was there that she met Kenneth Royal Mills. After marrying, they relocated to Bartlesville. During the 1950s, Ann worked at Phillips Petroleum Company as a research microbiologist and has a number of patents to her name. She quickly became active in the Bartlesville community. She is a founding member and elder of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. After their daughter Katherine was born, Ann became active in the Bluestem Council of Girl Scouts USA. For many years she led Brownie and Girl Scout troops and directed the council’s summer camp, Camp Wah-Shah-She. A highlight for the girls she led was a summer trip of 3700 miles through seven states to camp at National Girl Scout Center West in the mountains of Wyoming. Ann was the fund raiser for the ambitious project of constructing the Lodge/Conference Center at Camp Wah-Shah-She, completed in 1990, and she served as president of the Bluestem Council. She subsequently was asked by the Girls Scouts Board of Directors to serve as a National Volunteer, assisting councils around the country with their finances and fund raising. This led, during the 1990s, to her being elected to two terms on the National Board of Directors of Girl Scouts USA. Ann was awarded the Help Award and Help Award II, the highest honors in Girl Scouting. Always a learner and a mentor, Ann returned to school in the 1970s and 80s, earning a BS in Organizational Management and Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma at Norman. She served with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and on the board of the Bartlesville Regional United Way, of which she served as president in 1999-2000. She loved working with her hands, and was well-known in the area for her beautiful creations as a silversmith. Along the way she became an accomplished recreational pilot and a licensed electrician. As a hobby, she restored a vintage International Scout automobile. Ann is survived by her husband of 64 years, Kenneth Royal Mills of Bartlesville; her daughter Katherine Mills Johnson and son-in-law Richard Johnson, granddaughter Carol Johnson Layton and grandson Kenneth Mills Johnson; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church.
