Agnes “Mary” Glover Agnes “Mary” Glover 93, of Bartlesville passed away on the morning of Saturday March 14 at her home in Green Country Village. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mary was born December 24th, 1921 in Wantage, England, the daughter of Richard Buswell and Gladys Chambers Buswell. At the age of 7, her family relocated to Kenya, East Africa to seek new opportunities. After her high school graduation in 1940, she was determined to become a registered nurse, but was unable to travel to England to train because of World War II. Instead, her father arranged for her to fly to Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) to receive her certification. In 1944, she graduated as a registered nurse and was awarded the gold medal as the top nursing graduate in the country. Following the conclusion of the war, she returned to Kenya, and began working at a local hospital while awaiting permission to sail to England to begin her two year mid-wife training. Upon completion, she then returned to Kenya as a certified midwife and quickly worked her way up to the position of Matron (Director of Nursing) at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Nairobi. When Princess Elizabeth visited her namesake hospital in 1952, Mary had the distinct honor of leading her tour. Days later while the princess was still in Kenya, the king died, and the princess became the Queen of England. Even though Mary received many suitors over the years, none were worth giving up her nursing career which was a requirement of the times, until she met the love of her life, David Anthony Glover, “Tony.” They wed on May 30th, 1953. They had two children, John and Sally. In 1996, Tony and Mary retired to Hove, England. They then moved to Bartlesville to be closer to family in 2008. She was described by everyone she met as friendly, smiling, and loving. Her delightful English accent and traditions were adored by all. She was uplifting and kind, and loved by her family all over the world. Survivors include her son John and his wife Vicki Glover of Perth, Australia; her daughter Sally and her husband Jim Lindsey, of Bartlesville, OK; by grandchildren Lisa Laughrey of Broken Arrow, OK; Richard Glover of Perth, Australia; Rachel and her husband Heath Ropp of Oklahoma City, OK; and Andrew Glover of Queensland, Australia; by step-grandchildren Ryan Lindsey of Phoenix, AZ; Brooke Lindsey of Phoenix, AZ and by great-grandsons Owen Laughrey of Broken Arrow, OK; and Lucas Duenke of Phoenix, AZ. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Anthony Glover, “Tony.” Funeral Services for Mary will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 18th, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Bartlesville, with Father Lee Stephens officiating.
