Thelma M Sumpter

Thelma Marie Sumpter (Olson), of Bartlesville/Oglesby, OK, a Bartlesville legend known for her kind, loving, caring personality left us on October 7th, 2024. Thelma lived a life filled with tremendous passion for her family. She brought joy and laughter to everyone she met. Thelma was born on June 9th, 1936, in Bartlesville, OK to William A. and Lela (Ballard) Olson. She graduated from Bartlesville College High in 1954. She worked at First National Bank of Dewey for 10 years and was owner of Sumpter Auto Sales until she retired and from there moved to Oglesby and was owner of C-S Farm and Ranch. On August 5, 1954, Thelma and Carl Sumpter were united in marriage at New Harmony Baptist church. Together they raised 4 children. Thelma is survived by her husband Carl Sumpter of 70 years, children, Carlitta Sumpter of Bartlesville, OK, Mike Sumpter of Oglesby, OK, Sharon and husband Jerry Wade of Oglesby, OK, and Dee and husband Richard Jones of Dewey, OK. Grandchildren Clint and wife Emily Ford of Bartlesville, OK, Katie and husband David Gordon of Bartlesville, OK, Jennifer and husband Colt Braden of Dewey, OK, Molly and husband Jess Jellison of Dewey, OK, Jesse Sumpter of Oglesby, OK, Chase Wade of Oglesby, OK, Dalton Sumpter of Oglesby, OK, and Michaela Sumpter, Oglesby, OK and 11 great grandchildren. And sister Lorna and husband Bob Hatfield, Nowata, Ok. Thelma had a passion for collector Corvettes and Mustangs. She also enjoyed buying and selling cars at the car lot. She was the best car detailer in Bartlesville. In Thelma’s retirement she spent many hours in the hay field, working cattle and riding horses. Thelma was best known for her love and passion for her animals. She loved raising colts for her granddaughters and had a tremendous love for dogs (Spud or as the neighbors called him, Red Dog), cats, and her two prize donkeys Moses and Joseph. In Thelma’s younger years, she and her daddy worked for Red Bird Ranch breaking horses and that’s where she acquired her first buckskin horse, Buck. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents Bill and Lela Olson, Sister Ada Taylor, Brother Billy Dale Olson, Baby Sister Katherine Marie, and great granddaughter Grace Gordon. Memorial service for Thelma, will be held at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Fellowship Hall at 1:00pm on Friday 11th,2024, 801 SE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, Ok In Lieu of flowers please make donation to the Journey Home https://www.thejourneyhomeok.org/donate
