Sarah Derryberry

Sarah Jane Derryberry passed away on May 8, 2022, after a long battle with numerous illnesses. Sarah was born November 19, 1956, in Topeka, KS to Josef and Helen Derryberry. Sarah grew up in Bartlesville as the family moved here in 1958 and she graduated from Col High in 1975. After many years of working in the family business, Derryberry Jewelers, Sarah went on to pursue her passion working for numerous non-profit organizations over the years. She worked for Call Rape (DVIS) in Tulsa as the Volunteer Coordinator for many years and later moved back to Bartlesville to work for Women & Children in Crisis. Shortly after, Sarah took a position as the Executive Director of Eldercare in Bartlesville. She along with others in Bartlesville started Eldercare. Sarah played an intricate role in obtaining the grants and funding as well as helped facilitate building of the current Eldercare facility and started the very popular fundraiser that continues to live on today, “The Good, the Bad, & the BBQ”. After Eldercare Sarah worked for Samaritan Counseling for a short time and was later hired as the grant writer for Osage Nation. She helped many organizations volunteering her time to mentor others that were new to grant writing as well as writing grants for them. Sarah had a great love for her family, friends, art, animals, and her community. Her father introduced her to her love of horses when he bought her first horse “Nancy”. In high school she worked for Judy Arnold, a great horseman, who gave Sarah a job handling her horses. Later she became friends with Virginia Sweet and Odie McReynolds, both very independent talented women who taught Sarah how to develop her interests in Art. While attending art classes at Virginia Sweets Art studio she reconnected with her former classmate Lisa Fox. Sarah and Lisa enjoyed roaming around New Mexico’s galleries in Taos and Santa Fe. Sarah was very close with her beloved niece Jennifer and great nieces Jade, and Jillian Tomlinson, often sharing with them her love of color, design, art and life lessons for which they will be forever grateful. Sarah is preceded in death by her parents Josef Eugene Derryberry and Helen Lorene (Crampton) Derryberry. She is survived by her partner, Lisa Fox of Bartlesville, OK., brother Josef M. Derryberry of Bartlesville, OK, brother Geoff R. Derryberry and wife Gail of Gainesville, GA., her nieces Jennifer Tomlinson and husband Jeff of Bartlesville, OK, and great nieces, Jade Tomlinson of Oklahoma City, OK. and Jillian Tomlinson of Bartlesville, OK., nieces Amber Derryberry, Amy N. Derryberry, and Amanda Derryberry, as well as many loyal friends. We are grateful for the care & love she received from the staff at Medicalodges of Dewey.
