Michael O'Brien

Michael L. “Mike” O’Brien, retired certified public accountant, passed away on July 27, 2024, at “The Journey Home” in Bartlesville, OK at age 79. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on what would have been Mike’s 80th Birthday, Monday, August 19th, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., Stumpff Funeral Home, 1600 SE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, OK 74006. Mike was born in Wellington, KS on August 18, 1944, to Otis C. “Pat” & Dorothy O’Brien. Mike graduated from College High School in Bartlesville, OK and then attended the University of Kansas where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Business Administration in 1969. While working on his MBA Mike taught Graduate Classes in Probability and Statistics and then, in 1968, went to work for Ernst & Young Accounting Firm (formerly Arthur Young) in Kansas City, later transferring to the Houston office in 1969. Between 1973 and 1975 Mike accepted a position as the assistant to the President of the Astrodomain Corporation, then owner of the Houston Astros and the Astroworld Amusement Park. In late 1975 Mike returned to Ernst & Young where he worked with, and traveled to, offices all over the world. In 1982 Mike accepted a position as Office Managing Partner and Audit Partner in the Singapore Office and then in 1985 accepted a position as Audit & Litigation Consulting Partner in the Dallas office. In 1992, Mike took an early retirement offer and established his own accounting practice, providing litigation support, economic analysis, and investigative accounting for multiple large businesses and corporations. In 2016 Mike officially retired and moved back to Bartlesville to be close to family and his roots. Mike is preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister Janice Sue, and his loving wife, Karen. Mike is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Shelley & Jim Charles of Bartlesville, granddaughter Heather Ellzey & her husband Adam of Fayetteville, AR, grandson Austin Keirsey & his wife Suzy of Bartlesville, OK, great-granddaughters Jaden & Aisley Keirsey of Bartlesville, OK, great-grandson Ethan Ellzey of Fayetteville, AR, and his niece DeeDee O’Brien of Bartlesville, OK.
