Mary Lynn Johnson

Mary Lynn Johnson, 76, of Dewey, OK, left this Earth for her eternal home on Sunday, October 1, 2023. She was born on March 18, 1947 to Dwayne (Bud) Lee Clary and Irene Gehr Clary in Benedict, Kansas. Mary spent her un-married life living with her parents and four sisters on the family homestead, four miles northeast of Fredonia, Kansas. Mary met the love of her life, Steve Johnson, in 1964 while they were both driving around the town square with friends. Excited to start their lives together, the two were married at First Christian Church in Fredonia, Kansas on August 27, 1966. After starting a beautiful family, they delighted in 57 years of marriage together. Over the years, Mary and Steve relished in their time they spent with family going to baseball games, horse races, taking the boat out on the lake, traveling, camping and trail riding. You could often find Mary reading, baking, watching her favorite game shows or being her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s biggest fan. Mary will be remembered for her love of all things Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and elephants. We couldn’t have asked for a better sister, mother and grammy. We will miss her every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her. Mary is preceded in death by both of her parents, Bud and Irene Clary. She is survived by her husband, Steve of Dewey, OK; her daughter Laurie Hailey and husband Tim of East Bernard, Texas, daughter Gayle Kee and husband Jimmie of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; her sisters, Sandra Cox of Fredonia, Kansas, Susan Voorhies and husband Phil of Fredonia, Kansas, Jo Scouten and husband Bob of North Carolina, Deanna Spoon and husband Gary of Fredonia, Kansas; five grandchildren, Jordan Lamas and husband Frank of San Antonio, Texas, Katelyn Abrams and Mckenzie Henderson of Dewey, Oklahoma, Kayne Abrams of Independence, Kansas, Gabby Murguia of Dewey, Oklahoma, Taylor Abrams of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; six great grandchildren, Leilani Henderson, Jordan James Henderson, Elijah Abrams, Sapphira Lynn Henderson, Camila Lamas, baby Lamas on the way. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 4 at 10 a.m. at Stumpff Funeral Home and Crematory 1600 SE Washington Blvd, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74006. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Journey Home. “God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put His arms around her, and whispered, ‘here, come with me.’ With tearful eyes we watched her suffer and saw her fade away. Although we loved her dearly we could not have her stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best!”
