KENNETH GENE DIXON Life Legacy Kenneth Gene Dixon, of Tulsa, born September 7th, 1936, left for his eternal home on July 1st, 2014 at the age of 77 surrounded by family. Ken was born to Troy and Lela Dixon in Pawhuska, Ok. He graduated from Osage High School in 1954. He joined the US Air Force in 1955 and served 20 years till his retirement in February 1975. He served a tour in Okinawa and a tour in Vietnam. One of his many awards included The Air Force Commendation Medal for Outstanding Achievement from April 1965-July 1967 for his skill and ability in making positive changes in the radar systems. He received The Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service while serving in Southeast Asia from January 1968-November 1968 for exemplifying sound judgment and professional ability involving problems with countering aggression. He was also awarded The Air Force Commendation Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster from March 1970-March 1971 for outstanding managerial ability resulting in vast improvements to the defensive posture of the Aerospace Defense Command. The Meritorious Service Medal was given to Ken for March 1971 to January 1975 for outstanding efforts resulting in major contributions to the effectiveness and success of the entirely new Air Force Communications Electronics Maintenance Management system. Ken retired as Senior Chief Master Sergeant on Feb. 1st, 1975. Ken married Georgia Dixon in 1955. They had two children, Angie and Greg. They traveled the country and lived in several states in the US over the course of the next 20 years. Ken and Georgia started a Medical Homecare Business in 1976 and it became the fastest growing small business in Oklahoma at the time. He ran a very successful business until 1987 when he sold it to a larger corporation. Ken graduated from the Victory Bible Institute in Tulsa, OK in May 1991. Ken divorced in 1988 and remarried Linda Handtke in 1991. They were married until her death in 2010. Ken lived in Pleasantview, TN until August 2013 when he moved to Tulsa to be closer to his daughter. Ken is survived by his daughter, Angie Wilhite, of Bartlesville, his son-in-law, David Wilhite of Bartlesville, his granddaughter, Amber Lenora of Midwest City, Ok, his granddaughter, Rachel Wilhite, of Fayetteville, AR, his brother, Bucky Dixon of Hominy, Ok., 4 sisters, Marie Caldwell of Elizabeth City, NC, Bonnye Upshaw of Cleveland, OK, June Cooke of Madison Heights, VA, Shirley Flores of Cleveland, OK. and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Lela Dixon, his wife, Linda Handtke and by his son, Greg Dixon. Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 10th , 2014 at 11:00am at the Adams Boulevard Church of Christ in Bartlesville, OK. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory in Bartlesville. A memorial has been set up for the Adams Boulevard Church of Christ, 3700 SE Adams Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006.
